THE FAMILY of a baby born 15 weeks premature celebrated his first birthday with a small party at home.

Jamie Easton, described by his parents as a 'beautiful miracle' was delivered by Caesarean section after mum Rebecca was taken to Hope Hospital in Manchester.

One year on and Jamie is now breathing without an oxygen aid and is slowly starting to progress. Dad Jason, 32, of Tingle Bridge Lane, Hemingfield, said: "We have got through the past year and he is doing really well.

"He came home in February but couldn't breathe unaided; he has slowly progressed throughout the year and came off the oxygen just over two months ago.

"We still can't take him out to busy places as he could catch cold which would make him seriously ill, but we have enjoyed quiet trips out with him on our own."

Jamie now weighs 6lbs 3oz but still has trouble sitting up on his own and has yet to start teething. Jason said: "We take him for regular check-ups every couple of months. He had one on his birthday. "He obviously won't develop at the same rate as other babies but doctors told us by the time he is three or four there shouldn't be a noticeable difference so it looks like he will be able to go to school."
