DEMOLITION of the Ceag building and former Carpet World site near the Jumble Lane crossing will get underway soon - in a bid to kick-start the town's regeneration.

Ambitious plans to knock down and rebuild the market have been delayed because the private finances needed for the scheme dried up due to the credit crunch.

Now Barnsley Council is planning to carry out the Ceag demolition to get the £300m market redevelopment underway and keep the project on track. The council believes that by doing the demolition itself it will reduce the financial burden on developers.
