A TEACHER being made redundant through cuts at PADS has said the drama and dance groups that people have been protesting about will continue when he has gone.
The Chronicle reported proposed redundancies at PADS (Performing Arts Development Service) two weeks ago sparking protests and letters to the Chronicle.
The council has said the drama and dance groups will not fold, but refuses to explain how it will sustain them once all dance and drama staff, including the head of PADS, have been made redundant.
Redundancy victim Chris Rooke, who runs Barnsley Youth Theatre, said: "I have been overwhelmed with everyone's support, and I feel humbled."
Barnsley girl Bryony Afferson (pictured), now a successful TV and stage actress, said she would not be where she is now but for Chris Rooke and the youth theatre.
Bryony, 26, has appeared in TV shows Law and Order UK, Survivors, Waking the Dead, The Bill and Totally Frank, and is starring in a Steven Berkoff play in the West End.
She said: "It seems such a backwards step to me. PADS is something separate to the schools which I always thought Barnsley was very proud of."
