A GROUP of girls from Kexborough is hoping to make its estate a better place by launching a road safety project.
Megan Hines, along with friends Katie Burgin-Brown and Hayley Tissington, all 12, came up with the idea as part of their 'community awareness' challenge for the Lifestyles programme run by the police.
The trio met Couns Alice Cave, Sharon Howard, Linda Burgess and PCSO Jo Winn on Tuesday to discuss their ideas.
Megan, of Uplands Avenue, said: "What we want to do is improve parking in the area around the primary school so kids are safer crossing the road.
"We've come up with this idea of getting hi-vis baseball caps too for kids to wear when the dark nights come in.
"Also we want to make drivers more aware of their speed driving through the estate and near the school."
The councillors promised to take the girls' concerns to the council's highways department to see what can be done .
