SILKSTONE primary pupils waltzed their way to success in a dancing competition.

Many only started ballroom dancing in September and couldn’t wait to show off their moves to dances like the cha cha cha, waltz, jive and quick step.

Christian Lewis, ten, said he took up dancing to help him with his football training.

“It really helps build up your co-ordination skills but now I just enjoy the dancing. It’s good fun.”

Judges were impressed by Christian Lewis, Lucy Clough, Luke Burgiss, Georgia Dorvell, Olivia Clough, Georgia Taylor, Joshua Darlington and Natalie Sugden, who took part in the Winter Wonderland Waltz at the Metrodome.

All the children, who are aged from seven to 11, are members of a 40-strong dance club held before school. They were among 140 children from schools across the borough who attended the event and were watched by more than 100 parents, grandparents and friends.
