A murder investgation has been launched after a man was shot in the head.
He was found at his home in Greenwood Avenue, Worsbrough, on Saturday morning after officers were called at about 9.30am. A post mortem was carried out on Sunday and confirmed the man had died from a gunshot wound to his head.
Two people, a man and a woman both in their early 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They are being quizzed by detectives investigating the incident
District commander Andy Brooke said a thorough investigation was underway. "This is a serious incident and will be dealt with accordingly. The investigation is ongoing but two people are in custody."
It is the second alleged murder in Barnsley in recent weeks. John Dawson, 57, of Worsbrough Common, died of head injuries last month. Gary Evans, 42, of Cope Street, Barnsley, and Adrian James Beevers, 41, of no fixed address, have appeared in court charged with his murder.
Ch Supt Brooke reassured residents. "Incidents like this are rare in Barnsley and people should remember this is a safe town. Crime is at a 21-year low."
