A man has been jailed for saying he does not like doing unpaid work and being indoors at night.
Malcolm Sennett, 41, was sent to prison for two months after admitting breaching the terms of a suspended jail sentence when he appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court.
Charles McDermid, prosecuting for the Probation Service, said Sennett had not been seen since he was sentenced in February for an assault on his mother. Mr McDermid said: “Mr Sennett said he does not like unpaid work and dislikes being confined at night.”
Philip Howard, defending, said Sennett, of Lang Avenue, Lundwood, said Sennett had been given a work placement with a firm he worked with a few years ago. Mr Howard said: “He has been promised that if he works well he will get his old job back. He has put this ahead of carrying out the terms of the suspended sentence.”
But Mr Howard’s plea for Sennett to be given a last chance fell on deaf ears. District Judge Michael Rosenberg accused Sennett of picking and choosing what he wanted and what he did not want to do.
