There will be tiers at Paula Coyle’s wedding today – four pork pie tiers to be precise.
The Hoyland bride is celebrating her marriage to bricklayer Stephen Murphy with a two-feet-high pork pie wedding cake. The 40lb beast has taken butcher Gary Turner of P Turner and Sons in Jump two days to create.
The largest tier took four hours to bake. Gary said: “It’s just something a bit different. The first one I ever made was for my sister’s wedding and I’ve done five or six since then.
“Everybody has been happy with them but they’re time consuming.”
Paula, 30, of Edinburgh Road, said: “I like it because they put pastry flowers on it and all sorts. Not everyone likes fruit cake after all.”
Paula, who works at Distinction Doors in Tankersley, is marrying Stephen, 43, of Wombwell, at The Fairway in Barnsley. They met at a local bar and he proposed in Las Vegas in 2008.
