YOUNG Hoyland girl Lexi Maynard is set to have her hair cut for the first time in four years next week in a bid to support a charity which supports people with cancer.

The nine-year-old has always wanted to embark on a fundraising mission like this - and it’ll come to fruition on Wednesday.

She’s set to have a large portion of her hair chopped off by staff at Shade Hair and Beauty in Hoyland - all of which will go to The Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Lexi’s mum, Kelly, told the Chronicle that the fundraiser is something she’s always wanted to do.

She said: “Since Lexi was little she’s always just had lots of hair.

“She actually had her first hair cut when she was only four months old.

“She’s always said that she wants to donate some of her hair to charity.

“Her hair now goes down to her knees so she thinks it’s the right time to have it cut off.”

A fundraiser has been set up by Lexi and her mum in a bid to raise £700 - the amount it costs for The Little Princess Trust to create the wig.

Kelly added: “The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as Alopecia.

“The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

“We have set up a Just Giving page as well but it’s not done quite as well as we’d have liked at the minute so we’re wanting to push that.

“We’re hoping that we can raise at least £700 which is the cost of the wig.

“We would love for more people to be made aware of how special this charity is and hopefully raise more money for them.”

Lexi has already managed to raise £175 and anyone who wishes to donate can do so by following the link on the Barnsley Chronicle website.

The youngster’s fundraising exploits have landed her a nomination in this year’s Young Champions awards - and Kelly says she couldn’t be more proud.

“She’s just such a lovely little girl,” she added.

“She’s so caring.

‘I’m so proud of her.”
