Barnsley lost by eight wickets at home to Sheffield Collegiate in their league game on Saturday.

Barnsley’s openers put on 42 but they collapsed to 56 for six then were all out for 112. They are now eighth with two wins and three losses.

Captain Boeta Beukes said: “It’s part of being a really young side. You will have highs and lows. We had been scoring 200 consistently but this was the first time we came up against one of the top sides in the division. We can take a lot of things out of it and learn from it.”

Barnsley lost twice to Doncaster Town on Sunday in their two-team Twenty20 Blast group. They fell ten runs short in the first game when chasing 156. Charlie Taylor took three wickets then Stevie Walters made a run-a-ball 64 not out. Barnsley were then bowled out for 127 replying to 145. Taylor again took three wickets.

Beukes said: “It’s disappointing to go out of the Twenty20. We put up a good fight, and took a young squad. It wasn’t our year but we’re still in other cups.”

Taylor, 16, joined from Aston Hall earlier in the season and plays for Yorkshire’s academy. He has been with their second team this week.

The all-rounder made a century for the Barnsley 2nd XI team the previous day.

Beukes said: “Charlie did really well and he’s another talent we’ve found.”
