BARNSLEY Hospice has been shining a light on the invaluable contribution of its volunteers this week.

As part of the annual Volunteers’ Week, hospice leaders have been praising the almost 90-strong team for the work they do.

Some of the hospice’s volunteers have been with the organisation since it was founded in 1994.

Sarah Hodgson, volunteer co-ordinator at the hospice, said: “This Volunteers’ Week, we’d like to acknowledge and celebrate our wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time across our hospice and retail hub.

“Barnsley Hospice was started through the kindness and dedication of local volunteers, and they have continued to be at the heart of our care for over 30 years.

“On behalf of everybody at the hospice, I’d like to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our fantastic volunteers, both past and present, for the difference they make to the hospice and the local community.

“Having dedicated volunteers helps save vital funds for the hospice which can be used to further support our services.( “We are always welcoming of new volunteers, no matter how little or much time they can give, it all makes a huge difference so we can be there for the people of Barnsley and their loved ones when they need us the most.”
