Love Music Hate Racism will be headlined by a singer whose greatest hits include the themes to Dale’s Supermarket Sweep and Bruce’s Price is Right.
Kevin Kitchen, of Silkstone, who has also written songs for transvestite Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana International, will be topping the bill at the third May Day carnival on May 5.
He had a top 40 hit in 1985 with ‘Put My Arms Around You’ and, the following year performed at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Since 1992 he has worked as a writer of game show theme tunes.
Also on the bill are acoustic artiste Jon Plant – who describes his influences as Damien Rice, Coldplay, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and The Wombats – Mark Oates and Nick Robin.
Organiser Steve Gilby said: “This is a great line up for a free gig in the centre of Barnsley but there are some surprise guests to appear on the day as well.”
Following the success of last year’s event, the acts will play from noon to 4pm on Peel Square.
