BARNSLEY Football Club’s new fanzone is set to be built after the council’s planning board approved plans this week.

Situated in the East Stand car park, the new area will be made up of shipping containers that serve food and drinks as well as a stage for local acts to play.

It’s hoped that around 650 people will be able to fit into the new fanzone, with a covered area for fans to stay no matter the weather.

The venue will be able to operate on five non-matchdays a year which will include screenings for other sporting events.

Questions were asked at the meeting regarding CCTV following concerns from residents and it was confirmed that stewards will man the site, while the club’s CCTV system should suffice.

Every councillor voted in favour of the proposals.
