YOUNG Ruben Ferris is hoping to become the next Gordon Ramsay - but his mum’s hoping it’s not just because the Scottish star swears a lot...

Despite being just seven years old, the Brampton youngster has already made a name for himself across the area.

Whether it’s making YouTube videos to upload to his channel, or making the tea for his dad’s cricket team - he’s always got cooking on his mind.

His mum, Steph, told the Chronicle that he’s thrown himself into his new hobby.

She said: “He’s got mild autism but it’s not stopped him.

“He asked me a couple of months ago if he’d be able to do some cooking and I said yes so he started reading all my cook books.

“He’s been looking at all my recipes and then he asked me one day if he’d be able to start filming them.

“He’s currently got 174 subscribers and he absolutely loves doing it.”

Ruben’s dad plays cricket for Scholes and Harley on the weekends and Steph has been the one helping to make the food - but Ruben’s started getting involved.

And he’s even managed to win an award through his work.

“He just decided that he wanted to help out with the food for the cricket club,” she said.

“He does a lot of the vegetarian options - he does curries and things like that.

“He’s recently won the Yorkshire Tea Star Award for all the work he does which is amazing.

“He won a trophy for the club, some vouchers and 1,500 tea bags.

“It’s brilliant.”

And even though he’s still a youngster, Ruben has a mature head on his shoulders - and his main aim is to ensure that people who may be struggling that they’re still able to cook healthy food.

Steph added: “He just wants to help as many people as he can.

“He realises that he’s very lucky with the food that he has and knows that not everyone is in the same position.

“He recently went down to the Hoyland Community Cabin and made a meal for about £2 because he wants to show that it can be done.

“It’s heart-wrenching that he’s able to see that side of the world.

“But I’m so proud of him for everything he does.”

Like many young aspiring chefs, Ruben’s hero is Gordon Ramsay - and he’s certainly following in his footsteps.

“He wants to be a chef when he’s older,” she said.

“I think he wants to be like Gordon but I’m not sure if that’s just because he swears a lot.

“He’s had a few incidents where he’s burnt himself and I was worried that would put him off.

“But he just keeps going.

“He absolutely loves what he’s doing.”
