IT took 16 years for married couple Matt and Kate Venables to realise they both held a Chronicle front page close to their hearts - but for very different reasons.

Back in the May 1 Dearne edition of the Chronicle in 2009, Matt’s grandad Walter was featured after he was given a ‘military-style send-off’ after his death.

But unbeknownst to him his wife, 26-year-old Kate, was on the same front cover.

And it’s taken them 16 years to realise.

Matt told the Chronicle: “I bought it back in 2009 and kept it ever since because it had my grandad on it.

“I have all the copies with my grandad in in a box.

“We had to move the box last Wednesday because we’re having a new shower fitted and there were some issues with the electrics.

“We were going through it and I pulled the paper out - but Kate said ‘that’s me’.

“I thought she was joking but she was actually on the front page with him.”

Kate never met Walter, but Matt says he feels like they now have following the ‘bizarre’ find.

“She’s kept the same paper as well because she’s on the picture for the Wath Festival,” he added.

“We couldn’t believe it.

“It’s the two people - minus my children - that mean the most to me on the same front page.

“It’s amazing.”
