NEW signage has been installed near Cortonwood following concerns from residents over drivers using the wrong lane when entering the roundabout.
Lane changes were made earlier this year by the council to ensure that the Highway Code was better reflected between Cortonwood and the Brewsters roundabout.
However, residents have complained about drivers who are using the roundabout incorrectly - with near misses on the Dearne Valley Parkway already reported.
But new signage has now been placed in the area with the hopes of ensuring those near misses don’t turn into something worse.
Wombwell councillors James Higginbottom, Brenda Eastwood and Robert Frost said: “We very much welcome the installation of destination signage on the approach from Cortonwood along the Dearne Valley Parkway.
“These signs, along with the carriageway markings, will help to remind drivers which lane they need to be in as early as possible and reduce the risk of collisions at the roundabout.
“The road layout was changed some months ago following collisions involving poor lane discipline and late changes, in order to better reflect the Highway Code.
“Following feedback from drivers, we have been pushing for additional signs to ensure the new layout is as clear as possible.
“We would like to thank residents for their patience and the highways service for acting on the concerns raised to improve safety for road users.”
