BARNSLEY fans are being urged to take part in a minute’s applause during tomorrow’s match against Burton Albion in memory of lifelong fan Alan Smith.

Alan, 71, of Brampton, was one of the most well-known Barnsley fans thanks to his volunteering at the club and his appearances on YouTube channel Red All Over.

He was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer earlier this year following tests and died in July with his wife Kate by his side.

Fans are being encouraged to take part in a minute’s applause in the 71st minute tomorrow.

Barnsley head coach Conor Hourihane, who spoke with Alan following his diagnosis, said: “It’ll be an amazing moment.

“It’s a really sad occasion with his passing.

“I was at the funeral last Monday.

“It’s a very sad one with Al not being with us but hopefully we can give him a touching tribute.”
