Barnsley beat Reading at Oakwell for the first time in 13 attempts since 1998 with a 3-2 win which continued their fine start to the season on Saturday.
Josh Earl opened the scoring early on and the Reds were well on top until an error from goalkeeper Murphy Cooper gifted the visitors a leveller.
Davis Keillor-Dunn and Adam Phillips, from the penalty spot, made it 3-1 early in the second half then Reading pulled one back.
The Reds remain unbeaten at home this season in all competitions and have 16 points from seven games.
Conor Hourihane named an unchanged team from the win over Huddersfield two weeks ago, although new signing Jake Rooney was on the bench.
Barnsley started very brightly, passing and pressing well. Jono Bland fired wide from just outside the box then Davis Keillor-Dunn shot across goal from the right of the box. They eventually took the lead from a left wing corner by Caylan Vickers which was headed into the top right corner by Earl.
Reading’s Paddy Lane hit the side netting after meeting a left-wing corner at the back post then Earl could have added a second but headed wide from Luca Connell’s free-kick.
Barnsley thought they should have had a penalty when David McGoldrick ran onto Connell’s clever free-kick turned a defender and looked to have been pulled down.
The Reds looked in control of the game but gifted their visitors an equaliser on 35 minutes. Cooper rushed out of his box to meet a long ball on the right wing but did not get it and Jack Marriott curled into the empty net from outside the box.
In the second half, Cooper saved from a Lewis Wing free-kick but it was Barnsley who scored two in four minutes just before the hour-mark.
The second goal was a superb team move which saw Connell play an excellent pass from the right wing to Nathanael Ogbeta on the left of the box and he cushioned a volley to Keillor-Dunn who headed into the bottom left corner from close range.
Then Connell found Ogbeta in the box and he was brought down by Ashqar Ahmed with the referee pointing to the spot. Phillips sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Reading pulled one back soon after when Daniel Kyerewaa fired into the bottom left corner from about 22 yards.
Keillor-Dunn was played through on the left of the box but, under pressure from a defender, scuffed a shot straight to the goalkeeper.
Charlie Savage could have levelled when a pull-back from the left found him just inside the box but he shot wide of the right post.
Cooper pushed Lewis Wing’s injury-time free-kick over the bar.
