PENISTONE Church won 2-0 at home to Bottesford Town on Wednesday.

Nathan Keightley scored both goals.

Church are now second with 20 points from 11 games.

Coach Brett Lovell said: “We were coming off the back of a really positive performance and result at Thackley.

“We were excellent for 25 minutes in midweek and took the lead with a good finish. We could have scored more but then got a bit sloppy before half-time.

“The wind was against us in the second half, we were really poor and Bottesford were better than us. We weathered a storm with good saves, blocks and poor finishing from them.

“We made some changes and all the substitutes were excellent.

“We got a second goal and saw the game out reasonably well. It’s a good win against a young, hungry side.

Lovell said: “We know Ashville will be difficult. Every time you go over the Pennines to Merseyside, you know you’re in for a tough game.

“Hopefully we can put in a positive performance and be in the hat for the next round.”
