CORY Sagar survived a knockdown to stay unbeaten with a third professional victory this week.
The 21-year-old bricklayer from Worsbrough was given a 38-37 win despite being put down in the third round by Italian journeyman Elliot Eboigbe.
The middleweight fight took place at Magna Centre in Rotherham.
Sagar said: “It was a good fight against a tough, strong opponent.
“I enjoyed it.
“I did well and my team were happy.
“For the knockdown, I got caught off balance square on.
“It was my silly mistake.
“But I got straight back up, back to my boxing and put in a good performance.
“I wasn’t hurt and it didn’t faze me.
“It’s good learning for me.
“All the best boxers get put down.
“At least it’s happened at the beginning of my career and not on a big stage.
“I’m just 21 and I have to learn.”
Cory is hoping to fight at the Metrodome later in the year.
He said: “I’ll be staying on four-rounders for now.
“I just want to keep building my experience and my reputation.
“Hopefully, at the end of next year, I will have eight wins and I can fight for something like a Central Area title.”
Meanwhile, Barnsley Boxing Academy pulled off two wins from two to kick off the new season.
Charlie Harford fought previous Yorkshire champion Marley Musgrave on the show at Sowerby Bridge and got a hard-fought victory.
Jack Quigley was also celebrating as he got the better of Tahar Barry.
