A BARNSLEY MP recently hosted an event championing equality in Parliament.

Marie Tidball, who represents Penistone and Stocksbridge, hosted a roundtable event to discuss their the Paralympics’ Equal Play campaign, which aims to ensure that every child has equal access to PE in school.

The roundtable follows the launch of the campaign last year, which revealed shocking statistics.

Studies show that only one in four disabled children said they took part regularly in sport at school last year.

The discussion was led by Marie and included experts from across teaching, training providers and sports organisations.

Marie said: “It’s an absolute privilege to be able to work alongside them to ensure every child gets their chance to shine.

“Sport has the unique power to break down barriers, build confidence and foster a sense of belonging.

“However, as a disabled child in school, there were no inclusive PE lessons for me to participate in.

“As a former SEND-statemented child myself, improving provisions for SEND children across our communities is one of my top priorities as your MP.

“I’ll be working closely with the Paralympics and the government to build a generation of teachers with the skills and confidence to deliver high-quality PE and school sport that every child deserves.”
