AN investigation has been launched after a bus window was allegedly shot at during an incident earlier this month.

Passengers said a neat, round hole was left by the shot, which shattered a window on the number 12 service from Barnsley Interchange to Athersley.

The bus was sat in traffic near Fleets Dam, on Smithies Lane, when the incident happened at about 4.40pm.

A witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “We were on the number 12 and it had several children aboard, workers going home and one woman with a pushchair who sat on the seat next to pushchair bay.

“The shot smashed the window next to the buggy and a round hole penetrated the double-glazed window.

“No-one was injured and all passengers were transferred to an awaiting bus to continue the journey.”

A spokesperson for operator Stagecoach added: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident on Smithies Lane in Barnsley on November 7.

“Safety is our absolute priority and we will carry out a full investigation into the circumstances as well as assisting the police.”
