JENSON Young came out on top at the north of England cyclocross league meeting on Sunday

The Hemingfield rider, who is on the books of professional gravel team Ribble Outliers, crossed the line first at Pontefract.

It followed up a fourth place in a national event the weekend before as Young adapts to the change in discipline throughout the winter months.

There were other Barnsley riders at the race.

Barnsley Road Club’s Mike Newton finished in a very creditable ninth place in the men’s race.

He had started well down the grid due to the high standard of competition and three pit stops but battled his way into the top ten mix.

The best placed BRC rider on the day was Owen Hanson who finished third in the under 12s race.

Other BRC riders competing on Sunday were Maddison Harworth, under nine Flynn Burrows, under 12 Theo Harworth and under 14 Safa Negahban.
