SELFLESS Harmony Cutting may only be 12 years old but she’s got an old head on her shoulders and showed compassion beyond her years when deciding to support some of the town’s elderly residents this Christmas.

The Holy Trinity pupil, from Bolton-upon-Dearne, began learning about helping the community during school time and decided she wanted to help residents at her local care home, Anchor Dearne Hall.

She still had some money left over from her birthday last month and, coupled with asking for donations at school and the support of her mum Paige, she managed to collect enough to hand over presents to all the residents on Saturday.

Paige told the Chronicle: “With her school being a faith school they’ve done a lot about helping the community and helping out at Christmas and Christmas spirit.

“She’s seen a lot of things about children and helping children in poverty and children in care and she asked about the older generation.

“It was her birthday in November and she had some spare birthday money and I said if she saved that then I’d put towards it.

“She asked for donations at her school and she messaged the care home who said they were really happy about it.”

Harmony visited the care home on Saturday with her presents in hand - and Paige says she’s really proud of what she’s managed to achieve.

“She also did some research because it’s got a dementia ward,” she added.

“She bought some smellies, chocolate, shower gel, presents, colouring books, word searches and things like that.

“Everyone had a Christmas present.

“It was absolutely amazing.

“There were some tears and it was a really, really nice afternoon.

“They were so overwhelmed with it.

“All the residents loved it.

“She’s always about giving and wanting everyone to have something.

“She just hated the fact that some people would wake up without a Christmas present.

“We’re so proud of her.

“Not many 12 year olds who do this and then give up their Saturday afternoon to go and spend it in a care home.”

Harmony enjoyed doing this so much that she’s already decided to do it again.

Paige added: “She’s already started making plans for Easter.

“She’s not stopping here.

“She wants to do this every year.”

A spokesperson from the care home thanked Harmony for everything she’s done.

They said: “Harmony has been collecting donations from her school and even spending her own birthday money to get these gifts.

“What a lovely, kind and beautiful young woman you are.

“Both the residents and the staff were overwhelmed by the generosity we received and it restored a lot of faith in humanity.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

“Your kindness touched so many people.”
