A DECISION has been made to move Wath Post Office following a period of consultation.

The current Post Office branch is located on High Street but from January 20 that site will close and move to Allied Pharmacy on Church Street a week later.

During the change, those needing to use the service can go to Winterwell Post Office or the Bolton-upon-Dearne Post Office.

A total of 43 people responded to a six-week consultation last year, with parking and access two of the main concerns from residents.

A spokesperson said: “After careful consideration of the feedback received, we remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, whilst

securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.

“The new location of the post office is in the premises next door to the existing pharmacy.

“The new premises will have two entrances, the current entrance at Allied Pharmacy has a wide door with level access.

“The other entrance will be at the former Libbie’s store, with works being carried out to incorporate a wide automatic door and level the access at the entrance.

“Additionally, customers will be able to access the adjoining Post Office area from the pharmacy via steps where the two screened positions will be.

“Parking and the availability of parking spaces are problems faced generally in many locations nationwide.

“Whilst the availability of parking spaces is outside the direct control of Post Office Limited. a further review of parking has been carried out and has confirmed that there are two car parks within walking distance of the branch.

“One car park is free, and one is fee paying.

“There is also roadside parking on Fitzwilliam Street.”
