MORE than £10,000 worth of cocaine was found by police in Cudworth after they stopped a car which was suspected to be involved in the supply of drugs.

Last Friday, officers from the Barnsley North East’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) were out on their usual proactive patrols when a black Citroen came to their attention.

The vehicle was suspected to be involved in the supply of drugs, and so with assistance from response officers, they requested the driver to stop.

When officers searched the vehicle, they uncovered a large quantity of cocaine, with an estimated street value of £10,000, alongside heroin, suspected ‘burner’ phones, and an air rifle.

The driver, a 43-year-old man, was promptly arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and for possession of firearm offences.

Sergeant Richard Wilson said: “This area of Barnsley borders West Yorkshire and so we often find that criminals try and take advantage of the borders, moving in between both.

“Our officers have built up a comprehensive intelligence picture and know which vehicles to look out for and are suspected to be involved in the supply of drugs.

“We have already made a significant number of arrests and secured multiple charges over the past year, but we will continue to work hard and continue to disrupt organised criminality.”

The driver has since been bailed while enquiries continue.
