SCOTT Banks became the first Barnsley player ever to assist goals in each of his first three games for the club, but says personal stats are ‘not important’ given the team’s disappointing results.

The winger, who signed on loan from St Pauli last month, set up goals in his first two games last week then registered two assists in the 3-2 loss at Bolton on Saturday.

But those weekend goals were in response to a disastrous first half which saw the Reds go in 3-0 down, while they had drawn 2-2 at home to lowly Northampton in their previous game. Asked about his assists, Banks told the Chronicle: “It’s been alright from that point of view.

“But it’s tough, we drew a game we should have won and we lost at Bolton.

“It’s personally nice to get assists but it’s not what is important at the moment.”

Banks has already started more league games than he did for Blackpool with whom he spent the first half of the season on loan. Asked about his fitness, he said: “It’s definitely tough but it’s coming more with each game.

“I just hope to keep building on each game and that I will be able to impact the games longer than I have in the last few. That’ll come. It’s part of football when you’ve not been playing.

“I will get minutes here, I just need to build it up.”
