BARNSLEY Women’s FC reached the semi-final of the Sheffield Senior Cup with a penalty shoot-out win at Doncaster Rovers Belles on Sunday.

After a 0-0 draw, the Reds won 7-6 on penalties.

Goalkeeper Serena Clarke saved two penalties – one of which was retaken after she had saved it originally but was controversially deemed to be off her line – while the final home spot-kick hit the bar.

Millie Fugler and Jemima Jarvis missed for Barnsley but their scorers were Charlotte Stuart, Tanya Fozzard, Clarke, Freya Walton, Alivia Chambers, Lucy Cook and Faith Horner.

Manager Craige Richardson said: “We were the better team over 90 minutes.

“The pitch was a leveller and made it hard to play football but we tried.

“We didn’t create really good chances but I think we dominated.

“We lost our last shoot-out and that told us we needed to be better prepared.

“We’ve been taking them after every training session for the last few weeks knowing this might be a possibility.

“We knew who our takers were and I backed every one of them, they had been striking them well in training.

“Even though it is a lottery, we had put work into it and it paid off.
