Worsbrough Bridge took a step closer to the NCEL Division One play-offs on Tuesday when they won 2-1 at second-placed Wakefield AFC.

Bridge are third, 11 points clear in the play-off places, and need eight more points to secure a place in the top five.

All the goals arrived in the first eight minutes as, after Keelan Grist’s opener was cancelled out, Connor Glavin netted what proved to be the winner.

Worsbrough have six games remaining in the league as well as the Sheffield FA Senior Cup final in which they will face National League North side Worksop Town who won their semi-final this week. The venue and date are yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Athersley Rec won 5-1 at bottom club Glasshoughton.

The scorers were James Woodhouse, Kane Reece, Keenan Davies-Mosley, Jack Woodcock and Nathaneal Dyer.

Rec are two places and seven points clear of the three-team relegation zone with three games to play.

Wombwell Town lost 4-0 at home to Pickering in the Premier Division.
