IT took a police dog just 11 minutes from a 999 call to catch a suspected car thief in Worsbrough.
On Saturday morning, at 1.11am, officers received a call to say that a suspect had gained access to a vehicle on a driveway in Worsbrough.
An alert was shared by the control room over the radio to officers and within seven minutes a dog handler on patrol had the vehicle in his sights.
A police spokesperson said: “The driver failed to stop for the officer and a short pursuit commenced, coming to an end when the driver collided with a lamppost and took his chances on foot.
“PD Angus was hot on his paws and had the man, aged 41 detained by his arm within seconds.
“The man, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and theft of a motor vehicle has been released on police bail at this time while our enquiries continue.
“Our dogs’ contribution to the frontline and policing our communities is invaluable and we’re always in awe of their skills and determination.”
