NICKY Eaden’s Barnsley under 18s lost ground on league leaders Wigan Athletic after they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Latics on Saturday.
A win would have seen the young Reds leapfrog Wigan to the top of the table but they are now five points behind with four games remaining, the next against Charlton on April 11.
Meanwhile, Barnsley u21s picked up four points from their two games this week.
They were 2-0 up against local rivals Sheffield United on Friday with goals from Charlie Lennon and Idreess Namisi but late goals from the Blades ensured the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Then in Wales on Monday, Barnsley went 2-0 down against Swansea before a Stanley Holder penalty late in the first half halves the deficit.
Substitute Max Rayner looked to have rescued a point for Barnsley but that turned to all three thanks to a stoppage time winner from Lewis Gould.
They host Hull City on Friday from 11am then travel to Crewe on Tuesday.
