Every child between the ages of five and 18 will be able to learn to play a musical instrument and sing as part of a new music hub in Barnsley.
Music services in Barnsley will now be available via a 'one stop shop' after government reforms to music education and the aim is to provide opportunities for all children to learn and perform as part of an ensemble or choir.
Barnsley Music Service has become the lead organisation in a 'hub' bringing music services across the borough into one place for a variety of genres, disciplines and skills, after a successful bid to the Arts Council England.
Organisations signing up to the 'hub' include Barnsley Youth Service, the YMCA, Barnsley Youth Choir, music schools Rhythm Inc and Opus Music, the Primary School Association, the Yorkshire Association for Music and Special Educational Needs and Barnsley College.
The hubs have been formed as part of a government reorganisation of music services and there are also hubs in Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster.
The hub is being officially launched in the atrium of Barnsley College's Old Mill Lane site on Wednesday from 7pm with a concert featuring performers from member organisations.
This follows an afternoon concert starting at 4.30pm featuring college students, Opus students and the Barnsley Guitar Ensemble.
