A PROLIFIC thief who went on a stealing spree last month has been jailed.

Billy Quinn, 29, stole more than £800 worth of items from multiple stores, including alcohol and washing products, across Barnsley in May.

All incidents were reported to the police and officers started to trawl through CCTV to identify a suspect.

Quinn, of Burke Street in Scunthorpe, was quickly identified and was subsequently arrested .

He was later charged with 19 counts of shoplifting and sent to the courts.

He was jailed for six months at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

PC Clare Sidaway said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, local business owners are often left with the cost to repay and it can also lead to staff feeling scared to go to work.

“Those who work in retail premises across our communities should feel safe when going to work, they should not have to deal with prolific thieves such as Quinn.
