BARNSLEY artist Josephine Dellow kicked off the Pride of Yorkshire trail this week as her artwork was one of the first to be unveiled across the county.
The sculpture trail officially launched on Monday and there are a number of Barnsley artists taking part.
Among the local artists involved are Josephine, Jayde Bell, known professionally as Eye Violet, Roseanna Dozy Hanson, Rune Dali Burke and Adam Briscoe, who have each helped transform lion sculptures into unique works.
Created by Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, Pride of Yorkshire will raise vital funds towards the £20m redevelopment of Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Sculptures at Weston Park in Sheffield were unveiled on Monday to mark the moment Pride of Yorkshire officially roared into life.
The three lions were designed and painted by artists Josephine, Lydia Bennett and Amrit Singh.
The Barnsley lions are scattered across the borough, from Oakwell to Elsecar Park.
Ruth Brown, chief executive at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, said: “Every year, thousands of children and young people come through our Emergency Department needing urgent, specialist care, often at the most frightening moments for families.
“While our teams provide exceptional care every single day, the environment they work in no longer reflects the growing demand or complexity of the patients we see.
“The support generated through Pride of Yorkshire will help us create a calmer, more child-friendly Emergency Department that is fit for the future, helping ensure children and young people receive the very best care when they need it most.”
