A GROUP of daredevil staff at a local hair salon who have been completing challenges to raise money for new TVs at Barnsley Hospital officially handed over their grand total last week.
Staff at Stella’s, on Pogmoor Road, have been taking part in a series of challenges over the past few months - from sky dives to drinking challenges.
The challenge started as a way of supporting the intensive care unit at the hospital and has spiralled into a huge fundraising mission which saw them raise more than £5,000.
It resulted in the team handing over ten TVs, ten stands, 20 remotes, ten remote tethers, cables, three iPads and much more to the hospital last week.
A spokesperson from the salon told the Chronicle: “In November the owner Ann Smith’s mum, Ann Cogdon, fell ill and was in the intensive care unit at Barnsley Hospital.
“All Ann wanted to do was watch I’m A Celebrity on TV and the ward only had one television for all the patients.
“Ann Smith decided that all the staff at Stella’s, and family and friends, would do I’m A Celebrity-themed challenges to raise as much money as possible to buy new TVs for the ward.
“Ann and Lesley Warden did a 14,000-feet skydive, Sharon Roddis and Sarah Powell abseiled off Anfield and all the staff - including Bethany Musgrave, Maya Kenny, Maddie Watkinson and Lauren Berry - did the Cocktails of Doom drinking challenge.
“In total we raised a huge £5,150.”
