The family of Barnsley assistant manager Micky Mellon will continue to look after Marcus Pedersen's dog while the striker is recovering from the gash on his foot he sustained playing for Norway on Tuesday night.
The Mellons have been taking care of the animal while Barnsley's highly-rated striker has been playing for his country and it is still at their Lancashire home because the player is recovering in Norway.
Manager David Flitcroft said: "Micky's kids love the dog so much that he doesn't want to give it back."
Pedersen is expected back in this country next week and Flitcroft hopes to have him in light training by Thursday. He will definitely miss the trips to Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth and probably the home game against Watford.
Flitcroft said: "I spoke to him on Tuesday and he was completely gutted because he had got himself into a really good state and loves it at Barnsley."
Pedersen has impressed in his three games so far and scored in the win over Huddersfield.
