SUPERBIKE racer Benji Dawson has been ditched by the instructor who was teaching him to drive a car — for treating the road like a race track.
The 20-year-old, who makes a living out of racing at 170mph on 600cc bikes, admits he drives cars too quickly and tries to take a racing line when turning corners.
But having been a competitive motorbike racer for nearly five years, he says he doesn’t know how to do it any other way.
Benji, from Ward Street, Penistone said: “My instructor didn’t like me very much because I was always above the speed limit and tried to use all of the road. “I passed my theory test and was about ready for my driving test but he didn’t think there was much point if I didn’t slow down.
“The problem for me is when you’re used to racing bikes it’s hard not to drive fast. It’s natural to me.”
Benji, who signed for Virgin Mobile racing last year, had eight lessons before being dumped.
He now plans to get back behind the steering wheel when the superbike season ends in November.
