DOUBT hangs over whether Barnsley-born elite cyclist Ed Clancy will make it as far as Barnsley for the final stage of Tour de Yorkshire.

Ed, 30, who is considered a fundamental member of the Great British cycling team, said he is 'not totally confident' he will make it to the third stage of the race three-stage Tour de Yorkshire race.

He said: "Ordinarily I would be but our training for the Rio Olympics is so intense that we haven't given ourselves the normal amount of time to prepare and taper down for a three-day road race.

"I can't promise that I will be able to complete it. The fact that the third stage is in Barnsley definitely gives me extra incentive to make it that far."
