ABOUT 400 people attended a public meeting to discuss plans for a gypsy site in the green belt between Cudworth and Lundwood.

Some were forced to stand in corridors and outside the Valley Community Centre, Cudworth as Derek Heeley’s plans for 24 caravan spaces on the former Cudworth railway station were considered.

Councillors Joe Hayward, Charlie Wraith and Steve Houghton were told of local concerns about water and sanitary arrangements, children’s safety, and that Station Road, Lundwood was an unsuitable access.

One resident said: “For children there is no other green space within 800 metres without crossing a main road. Can the council designate it green space to further protect it?”
