MEMORIES has received an interesting response to photographs of Barnsley Auxiliary Fire Service during the war years of the early 1940s.
The photographs were loaned by John Steele, whose father George was a member of the service.
George also worked for the Barnsley British Co-operative Society as a butcher for many years.
We received an email from Percy Featherstone who said: “I looked with interest at the photographs of Barnsley Auxiliary Fire Service at work during the war.
“Although I don’t know any of those in the pictures, I am interested because my father, Wilfred Featherstone, was also in the Auxiliary Fire Service in Barnsley at the same time. He also told me stories about going to Tinkers Pond.
