CONSULTANTS have been brought in to look at improving trade in a town centre shopping area once hailed Barnsley's 'jewel in the retail crown'.
Fresh Marketing Solutions, a Nottingham-based marketing consultancy, is conducting research on how to boost business on The Arcade.
The Arcade has seen several periods of boom, followed by those where many of the shops have been left empty, with high business rates blamed by several traders for their departure.
The specialist marketing consultancy firm has been liaising with town centre retailers to gather information on how to improve trade, particularly on the adjoining Eldon Street/Market Hill ends of the ailing shopping area.
