HUNDREDS of troubled families in Barnsley have been helped to turn their lives around and give their children a 'better chance in life'.
'Troubled families' are defined as those involved in youth crime or antisocial behaviour; have children excluded from school or regularly truanting; has an adult on out-of-work benefits or costs the public purse highly in responding to their problems.
Local councils are paid up to £4,000 on a payment-by-results basis for turning around complex families.
Latest figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government show that since 2012 the council has worked with partners to support 645 vulnerable families to help them turn their lives around.
