A VIGILANT policeman averted disaster last week after spotting a loose chimney in Darfield.

The officer warned staff inside the Garden Street Dental Practice that chimney pots on the roof of their building were wobbling in the wind last Wednesday.

But after closer inspection, staff realised the chimney belonged to neighbouring Shayam Stores, on the corner of Garden Street and Snape Hill Road.

The road was closed between 1.20pm and 2.50pm.

Staff at the dentists left for lunch and returned to find the cordon and two fire engines, with firefighters using a cradle and working to remove the chimney pots.
