EMERGENCY repair work is being carried out on a Grimethorpe street after a burst water main cracked a road.

People on Brierley Road were left without a water supply on Sunday due to the problem, which churned up the road surface and brought minor flooding.

A Barnsley Council spokesman confirmed that repairs are being carried out on the street.

“The council has granted a permit for Yorkshire Water to carry out the necessary repair to the water main and the carriageway.

“This work is currently taking place but temporary traffic lights will be in operation to allow the work to be carried out safely.”
