THE shutters will come down on one of Goldthorpe’s oldest shops for the last time tomorrow when Booth’s closes after nearly 60 years.
Janet Booth, who took over the children’s and ladies’ wear business in Barnsley Road from her mother-in-law, Muriel, in 1975, will be sorry to see it go and especially sorry to say goodbye to her customers.
“I’ve had some lovely customers and I’ve been crying all week,” she said.
“It’s time for me to retire, but I never expected so many people bringing me cards, gifts and flowers. They’ve been so wonderful, I can’t believe it. Some of them have been with us all their lives and we’ll really miss them. I’ve loved every minute and am beginning to think I’m wrong to be going.”
