HAS any retired or serving firemen any old photographs or information about the history of the Barnsley Fire and Ambulance Service and district fire stations?
At a recent meeting of the Barnsley branch of the Retired Firefighters' Association, a decision was made to gather as much data as possible about times gone by at local fire service stations with a view to preserving their history in writing for future generations.
They are, therefore, asking for photographs, stories to tell or anecdotes about the history of these stations.
The stations they refer to are: Barnsley (Churchfields) or Broadway as well as fire stations in Barnsley (prior to Churchfields), Penistone, Royston, Brampton, Wombwell, Hoyland and Goldthorpe.
They would also appreciate any information and/or photographs of the National Fire Service and Barnsley Auxiliary Fire Service for the above areas.
If anyone can help to provide information regarding the above, they are asked to contact Pete Chipchase on 287436. Photographs and/or any other information can be emailed to: peter. helmetsnarf@blueyonder.co.uk
All photographs will require the owner’s permission to copy. When copied they will be returned immediately. Postage will be refunded if necessary. Copies of photographs can also be sent by email.
Should anyone wish to help with this project, the Barnsley branch of the association meets at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of every month at the Fire Station, Broadway, Barnsley. Everyone is welcome to join them.
