A WORSBROUGH girl is packing herself off on a six-month volunteering mission to Egypt - and Luton.

Helen Lock, 21, of Wigfield Drive, will live with a family in Egypt for three months getting involved in volunteering projects. She has no idea exactly what the projects will be yet, but has been told to expect a challenge.

“Past projects have including re-roofing churches and laying zebra crossings” she said. But it doesn’t end there. Helen will then come back to Britain and spend another three months in Luton doing volunteer work there too.

Helen said: “It’s what they call cross-cultural learning. Basically, we don’t go to Egypt and say ‘Hi, we’re from Britain and this is how you should do things’. We’ll get involved and help with all kinds of projects that carry on after we leave.

“But then, we come home with a group from Egypt and we all go and do the same thing in Luton. We all learn from each other's culture. I think Luton will be just as challenging as Egypt.”

The trip is organised by Global Xchange. She must raise £600 before she goes in March.
