HOYLANDSWAINE farrier Thomas Pears swept up at the Yorkshire Show in Harrogate last week by winning three of his five classes.

The 27-year-old came second in the other two and was also crowned champion farrier.

It is his best result at the show since he started competing 10 years ago.

He said: “I’m delighted because it the best I have done at the Yorkshire Show.

“I wouldn’t go around calling myself the best farrier in Yorkshire but I was the best over three days.”

Thomas started shoeing horses aged 11. He later did an apprenticeship and set up his own business based on Crabtree Farm.

He enters competitions all over the world including an event in the US which he has taken part in three years in a row.
