THE DUKE of York had a laugh with the Mayor and Mayoress when he dropped into Barnsley this week.
The trio enjoyed a joke as the Mayor, Coun Ken Sanderson, handed over a momento of Barnsley to His Royal Highness.
The Duke also seemed interested in the proposed scheme to lay super high speed broadband cabling throughout South Yorkshire at a total cost of £90 million.
Funding is already secured, and the Duke asked 'what are you waiting for' but he was told the scheme still has to be given approval from the government.
He was curious whether Barnsley was seeing new businesses set up despite the credit crunch. John Lewis, chair of the Chamber of Commerce, said: "Very much so, sir. They're in the Chronicle every week'.
