IT'S 40 years since Worsbrough Common Primary School's football team welcomed Barnsley player Pat Howard.

Pat had accepted an invitation from the school to present a Barnsley Schools' football trophy to this young talented team and the players were, as one can imagine, thrilled to have one of their Oakwell idols at their school.

The lads who were in the team have been named as: back row, left to right: Glen Greenwood, Steve Greenwood (no relation), Anthony Tyas, Roy Sanderson, Martin Beecroft, Steven Szocs, Colin Smith. Front row: Colin Davies, M Young, Steve Chambers, Paul Turton, Stan Bulmer (the son of Stan Bulmer, ex-Barnsley Chronicle photographer).

Pat Howard, who was born at Dodworth, was a popular player at Oakwell. He was a member of the Reds' team from 1965 to 1971, making 177 league and 15 FA Cup appearances. He went on to play for Newcastle United.

This photograph and another one of the team were submitted by Marlene Szocs, the mother of Steven Szocs.
